CBT is a psychological therapy that aims to help you identify underlying beliefs and how they influence and maintain your behaviours in the here and now. CBT is often used to help treat a range of mental health issues such as depression, anxiety related problems, trauma and addiction. CBT is used to treat specific issues and will help you to identify and adjust the thought patterns that influence your emotions and behaviours.
EMDR is a form of therapy used to treat trauma and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). If you have suffered a traumatic event / multiple traumatic events your brain may have difficulty processing what has happened which can create psychological difficulties. These difficulties commonly include depression, anger, anxiety and panic. EMDR aims to reprocess these distressing memories which in turn reduces or eliminates depression, anger, anxiety and panic.
ACT is another form of psychotherapy and incorporates a mindfulness approach. It is inevitable that sometimes in our lives we will be faced with situations that may make it difficult for us to cope and they will have a negative impact on our mood, stress/anxiety level and quality of life. ACT is based on the notion that life is about suffering and aims to help you accept suffering and learn to live with it.
It is commonly used to help those who suffer with long term health conditions and chronic pain as these conditions often impact on mental health. If you can learn to accept and live with suffering and the difficulties you encounter during your life you are more likely to overcome them and be able to move forward and live a better life.
You can do this by first of all recognising the thoughts and behaviours that maintain your suffering and then learn how to make the necessary changes to improve your mood, anxiety and suffering.
CBASP is a form of therapy that has been specifically designed for the treatment of chronic depression. The therapist and client work together to identify the lessons you have learned at an early age from the experiences and interactions you have had with the people in your life.
These experiences may negatively influence the way you think about yourself and others because you have developed inaccurate and unhelpful perceptions/beliefs about yourself and others. CBASP therapy will help you to identify how these lessons influence beliefs and coping behaviours in your life now. It helps you to improve self-belief and interactions with others.
I regularly post about well-being and mindfulness; as well as tips on how to alleviate and accept anxiety and depression.
My practice is located in Doncaster and is accessible from anywhere in Doncaster and the surrounding areas. I can provide face to face therapy and online therapy.
