CBT is a short term psychological therapy that can help you change unhelpful coping behaviours and adjust unhelpful patterns of thinking that drive behaviour. CBT can help with a number of mental health problems including depression, anxiety, trauma and addiction. CBT is a structured therapy with a therapy goal in mind and requires your active involvement in order to successfully achieve your goal. CBT helps you to understand and accept that you cannot control everything that happens in your life but you can learn to react and manage situations and interactions with others in a way that minimises the effects on your mood and anxiety.
CBT involves identifying unhelpful ways of thinking and unhelpful coping behaviours and then focusing on changing these unhelpful ways of thinking and coping. If successful, CBT will help you to develop different perspectives about events that happen in your life and enable you to take back some control in your life. This in turn leads to improvements in your mood and reduces anxiety.
EMDR is an effective treatment that was developed primarily to help those suffering with post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). EMDR aims to reprocess memories and reduce or eliminate uncomfortable or distressing emotions that are associated with a single or multiple traumatic event/s. If therapy is successful your mental and emotional reactions to your traumatic memories will be reduced or eliminated when you think about them in the future. EMDR is also used to treat non PTSD related trauma symptoms.
Elements of EMDR can also be used to reduce anxiety common to other mental health problems such as obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD), generalised anxiety disorder (GAD), panic and phobia.

ACT is a form of therapy used to treat those suffering with long term health conditions and chronic pain. It can be easy to get stuck in cycles where you are thinking about the past or worrying about the future which impact negatively on how you feel. Negative patterns of thoughts and behaviours are unhelpful. They prevent you from being able to feel better which can leave you feeling helpless, hopeless and vulnerable. The aim of ACT therapy is to teach you how to achieve self-acceptance using a mindfulness approach. Mindfulness can help you manage thoughts and behaviours that may prevent you living a better life. Self- acceptance and commitment to change in line with identified personal values can help reduce pain, reduce anxiety and improve mood.
CBASP therapy has been specifically designed to help those suffering with chronic depression. If you are chronically depressed you may have noticed important relationships, and your ability to cope with everyday living has deteriorated, or you may have reached a stage where you are hardly able or unable to cope at all.
You may have started to become withdrawn and try to avoid speaking or mixing with others including those closest to you. CBASP aims to help you explore early life experiences and interactions with others, some of which may have been traumatic. It will help you to identify the lessons learned from these experiences that may be helping to maintain your chronic depression in the here and now.
It will help you to identify the unhelpful ways you may be interacting and reacting to others. It will teach you how to change unhelpful cycles of thought and behaviour that keep your depression going. This in turn can help you to improve your reactions and interactions with others. Improved reactions and interactions with others will help to improve mood and reduce anxiety.

I am able to provide online CBT therapy for those living outside my local area in the UK or beyond. Currently I cannot provide EMDR or CBASP therapy online.
I am able to provide clinical supervision for High Intensity CBT therapists and trainee CBT therapists on MSc CBT courses. I provide an online option for those living outside the local area and offer student rates for trainee CBT therapists.
At your consultation appointment I will complete an assessment of your difficulties and discuss with you which CBT/EMDR treatment option will be most effective in helping you to feel better. I will also assess your suitability for CBT/EMDR therapy and if I think CBT/EMDR therapy with me in Doncaster, South Yorkshire is not going to be helpful for you I will advise you on any other options that may be available to you with any other services.
Consultation duration is 60 minutes.
CBT clinical supervision can be provided face to face or online.
Clinical supervision sessions for qualified CBT therapists are 90 minutes – frequency of sessions is negotiable.
Clinical supervision sessions for trainee CBT therapists are 90 minutes to 2 hours – frequency of sessions will be in line with course requirements.
Following your initial consultation appointment if suitable for CBT/EMDR therapy you will be offered follow up appointments which are your treatment sessions. The number of treatment sessions required will be determined by the progress you make in therapy. Learning resources are included in the price of each treatment session. Any books I may recommend you read as part of your therapy are not included in the price of therapy.
At the end of your therapy we will complete a relapse plan together to ensure you are able to maintain the gains you have made when you leave therapy.
Treatment sessions are 60 minutes.
